“Our goals are clear and so is our strategy. Yet we miss discipline in execution and are distracted by far too many topics.” This is what a client recently shared with us. Despite having well-defined objectives and strategies, their business wasn’t experiencing the anticipated growth for several quarters. The immediate reaction: intensify efforts and focus on short-term actions. While this response is understandable, it often leads to chaos and strains resources without delivering sustainable improvements.
The essence of disciplined execution lies in careful planning and clear processes. Introducing structured account plans can prevent hasty decisions, increase transparency, and maintain focus on long-term business objectives. In joint efforts, we developed pragmatic plans for each client account and business area. This demanding task required the involvement and commitment of all relevant stakeholders. Demanding, yes, but worth the effort as discipline increased and distractions were significantly reduced.
Balancing the need for immediate tactical actions while maintaining a long-term strategic view is challenging. How do you navigate this in your company? Share your views and let others learn from your experiences.
